Just 26, and Mike is tearing up the fashion scene in Miami with his unique blend of dapper meets dancehall, all while operating a fresh new clothing line at the same damn time. Equipped with the ability to flip the switch from classy to brassy, neat to street, this rising entrepreneur definitely holds weight in the department of style. Don’t believe me? You know the rest…
How would you describe your style?
I was born in Kingston, Jamaica, so my style is influenced by the dancehall/reggae culture from my island, with a mixture of European street style. But it all depends on how I’m feeling; I use [fashion] as art to express myself.
Besides, your Jamaican culture and European street style, who—or what—would you say inspires your sense of fashion?
My style is mostly inspired by debonair men who know exactly what they want from life and dress the part to get it.
Most fashion-forward people use style to make a statement. What are you saying—what is your mission?
My mission is to let young men know it’s okay to express themselves through the way they dress without people passing judgment. Be yourself and love yourself.
Why do you love fashion?
Fashion to me is like going to work everyday; it’s a lifestyle. ‘Dress how you’d want to be addressed.’
You have your own fashion line. Tell us a little more about it.
The name of the line is called ‘Lepremier Miami.’ In French, it means originality; the first of its kind. However, I started designing eyewear [first], then branched into apparel. But the line consists of mostly high-fashion street wear pieces.
Does your line cater to men only?
The majority is men’s [apparel, but the line includes women’s clothing too].
What is your biggest accomplishment pertaining to your fashion line thus far?
Being featured prime time on BET’s Rip the Runway fashion show.
Nice! Have any notable celebrities worn your clothing as of yet?
Yes, Sean Kingston and Amber Rose, to name a few.
Maad ting mi dupes! Big up yourself! [Yeah, I speak a likkle Patois.] Which celebrities would you most like to see wearing your designs?
Rihanna and Kanye West, definitely!
What are both your short-term and long-term goals for Lepremier?
[My] short-term goal is to create a dope collection every season, and [my] long-term goal is to one day have a boutique or fashion house in Miami.
Who is your favorite fashion designer?
My favorite designer is Tom Ford. His designs are eclectic and eccentric for the modern day man.
And I’m sure we’ll be saying the same thing about Mr. Marshalls threads one day too. Tap the tabs for a taste of Mike’s personal lookbook.
