The Daily Buzz: Black Entertainers Defend Zendaya + Giuliana Rancic Apologizes for Offensive Hair Remarks

The panel on E!’s Fashion Police are known for dishing out some pretty harsh criticism when it comes to judging celebrities’ threads. But on Monday night (Feb. 23), co-host Giuliana Rancic stroked her “I’ma throw some shade brush” a little too hard when she said actress/singer Zendaya Coleman‘s faux locs at this year’s Academy Awards made her think Z smelled like “patchouli oil and weed.” (I’m not sure what “patchouli” is, but whatever the case, it sure sounds like something Giuliana looks like:

Sorry, back to the story.

Of course, every barbershop, hair salon, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter feed has been on FIRE about the remarks, and Zendaya herself even issued a response in the form of an open letter that she posted on Instagram. Since then, a slew of Black celebs chimed in to show their support.

Here’s a look at what some of our sistas had to say:

Ava DuVernay

Kerry Washington

Viola Davis

Shonda Rhimes

And of course, leave it up to lil’ Laila Ali Solange “One Hitter Quitter” Knowles to bring some sass to this mix:

Don’t let Solo catch Giuliana on an elevator.

On second thought, she might not have to take it there…

Zendaya’s poignant and classy response to the ig’nant-ness (yes, I did just make up that ignorant ass word) did not go unnoticed by her stereotype-slinging perpetrator. Last night, Ms. Rancic released a video apologizing to Z and everyone else who was offended by her 1955-ish hair comments (aka pretty much the entire Black race).

Check what Giuliana said to say below.

Hmm. Do you all think that was sincere?
