What’s the Message Behind Kendrick Lamar’s New Album Cover?
Last week, Kendrick Lamar revealed the release date of his sophomore LP on twitter (click here if you missed that). Last night, he quaked the Earth even harder when he dropped the cover art for the album via Instagram.
Previously, I believed he’d dubbed the album “Untitled” because of the description listed under his iTunes link, but from the looks of his IG, the 16-track project might be called To Pimp a Butterfly.
From the photo’s caption:
‘Don’t all dogs go to heaven? Don’t Gangsta’s boogie? Do owl shit stank? Lions, Tigers & Bears. But TO PIMP A BUTTERFLY. Its the American dream nigga…. – lil Homie.
The cover depicts a crew of ghetto youngin’s wildin’ and stylin’ in front of the White House while a White judge is slumped on the ground with his eyes x’d out.
Pretty powerful imagery, especially with the brewing racial tensions in America following the deaths of Tony Robinson, Eric Garner and Mike Brown.
But what is K. Dot really saying with this radical visualization? Leave your thoughts below.
