Just when you thought the world couldn’t get any sicker…
A Cincinnati area mother is facing charges of aggravated murder in the death of her three-month-old daughter, according to WCPO-TV.
Cincinnati Police said they responded to a report of a deceased infant in a Waldway Lane home early Monday morning, where they discovered three-month-old Janiyah Watkins dead inside her family’s home. Based on reports, she had been murdered by her mother, 20-year-old Deasia Watkins.
Hamilton County coroner, Dr. Lakshmi Sammarco, said it’s unclear if Watkins acted alone, but noted that the infant suffered “multiple traumas.”
“It’s just a three-month-old senseless murder. A baby lost her life,” Sammarco said Monday. “We’re all parents. You know I’m a mother, most of the people in our office are parents. This affects all of us.”
“It’s days like this when you really wonder how much evil there is in the world and how we’re fighting it. We’re trying to do right by this child. We’re trying to bring justice for this baby.”
Sources told WKRC Cincinnati that baby Janiyah’s head was severed, but it’s unclear if that’s what caused her death.
“Something’s wrong. She got to be sick in the mind or something. I don’t see how anybody can do that to a little baby,” said Jimmie Graham, who lives across the street from the home where the infant was murdered.
It’s reported that Deasia Watkins suffered from mental illness and had recently lost custody of Janiyah, who had been placed under the care of a family member. The 911 made Monday morning came after children walked into the home and found Watkins with her baby.
The young mother has since undergone psychiatric evaluation, but no word on her first scheduled court appearance.
Disturbing. Let’s us pray for this family, and may baby Janiyah rest in peace.
