This is a crazy world we live in.

Colorado Police have arrested 34-year-old Dynel Lane in the brutal stabbing of a pregnant woman who lost her baby Wednesday (March 18), reports WABC-TV. The 26-year-old expectant mom went to Lane’s home in response to an ad for baby clothes that the suspect had posted on Craigslist.

When she arrived, Lane, a mother of two, attacked the woman with a knife, cut her open, and removed the mother’s unborn baby from her womb. When her husband came home, Lane told him she’d suffered a miscarriage and had him rush her to a nearby hospital.

The victim, who was seven months pregnant, was found stabbed and badly beaten at the suspect’s home, Longmont, CO police Cmdr. Jeff Satur said. She’s since undergone surgery and has been able to answer questions involving the case, police reported.

Lane was arrested at the hospital on suspicion of three felonies: attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault and child abuse knowingly and recklessly resulting in death.

Though Lane’s crime was heinous in nature, Boulder County District Attorney Stan Garnett said his office will have to consider what formal charges are appropriate to file.

“The issues involving an unborn child are complicated under Colorado law,” he told the Longmont Times-Call. “In most circumstances, if a child was not actually born alive, then homicide charges are not possible.”
