The Daily Buzz: Kendrick Lamar Honored by California State Senate + Waka Flocka Makes Fighting Fans Hug it Out

Kendrick Lamar Receives Generational Icon Award from California State Senate

Ya boy Kendrick Lamar may be a newbie, but he sure is making the best of his time in the spotlight. So much so that he was recently honored with the Generational Icon Award from the California State Senate on Monday (May 11).

According to, Senator Isadore Hall took the floor of the Senate to bless Lamar with the honor. “In less than ten years as a professional artist, Mr. Lamar has gone from a local Compton young boy to become a multi-platinum, Billboard chart-topping, two-time Grammy award-winning musician,” he said.

But this award was about much more than K. Dot’s super duper rapping skills. He’s been giving hundred of thousands of dollars to the Compton Unified School District, funding music programs at the school, and breaking off bread to other non-profits like Habitat for Humanity, which builds homes for families living in poverty.

“[Lamar is] a voice to new generation of urban youth.” Hall went on to say.

The looking humble as can be, the Compton born and raised lyrical luminary took the floor to speak on the nod. “It’s definitely an honor to be right here in front of you guys,” Kendrick said. “Being from the city of Compton and knowing the parks that I played at and neighborhoods, I always thought how great the opportunity would be to give back to my community.”

Keep it up K. Dot!
