Black Fact of the Week: Nigeria’s Aliko Dangote is the Wealthiest Black Man in the World

aliko dangote

With his hands in the sugar, flour, and (most notably) the cement markets, Aliko Dangote is both Nigeria’s first billionaire and the wealthiest Black man on the planet. Although he lost close to $10 billion since March 2014 due to the recent devaluation of Naira (Nigerian currency) and the plummeting stock prices of his four major businesses, Dangote still thrives with a Forbes estimated net worth of $15.7 billion. His Dangote Cement company is Africa’s leading cement manufacturing jewel, and he’s reportedly working on building an oil refinery that will reduce Nigeria’s oil import dependency. The refinery is set to debut in 2016, so chances are, Dangote’s wealth will be steadily climbing in the future. #BlackBillionairesClub
