A native of Newark, NJ I’ve written for major digital brands such as BET, Madame Noire, Mommy Noire, For Harriet and Ebony.com. For years, I had the urge to start my own blog where I could write about some of the same topics that I was paid to pen as a freelance writer, but without the limitations and lack of creative control that comes along with working for other people.
Being a firm believer in Black empowerment and unity, I noticed that there was a deficit in online platforms that embraced and showcased Black-owned businesses. So in 2012, I started a page on Instagram called “Out Here Hustling (OHH)” to shine the limelight on rising Black establishments and entrepreneurs. The page was well received on IG, so I knew that I wanted to eventually turn OHH into a website where Black and Brown people could not only promote their hustles, but where consumers would have access to a hub of Black-operated businesses and services with the stroke of a finger.
With visions of running my own site at the back of my mind, I continued to freelance for various blogs and websites until worked slowed up for me in the last quarter of 2014. As a then-aspiring author on the brink of releasing my debut novel, Accepted, I knew that I needed my own website to sell my book and merchandise, so it was then that I decided to put a plan into motion. I thought, “Why not merge my personal site with a funny and informative blog celebrating the African disaspora and Out Here Hustling?”
BOOM! Miss CM was born!
But being the creative that I am, I have my hands tied in so much more. At the top of 2016, I launched my own line of cosmetics CM’s Naturals, dedicated to providing effective health and beauty products, the natural way. Plus, on January 23, 2017 (for my 27th birthday), I released the eBook version of my debut novel, Accepted, on Amazon.com (available for purchase here).
Stay tuned as I reach new heights and fly fresh kites!
